European Trial Championship at Santo Stefano d’Aveto (Italy) – Day 1

bertaAbellan
Spanish Berta Abellan (Vertigo, photo1) and Italian Carlo Alberto Rabino (Beta, photo2) were one step above all in Day 1 of the fourth round of the European Trial Championship, held at Santo Stefano d’Aveto, Italy. Winners in Women's and Youths’ classes, respectively, scored almost half points than their most challenging rival. The young Spaniard girl decided to escape from her group of rivals. Taking advantage to be one of the first to start, she absolutely did not worry to open all the sections, rode for herself and gained the leadership at the turning point. Her score was 5, but Norwegian Ingveig Hakonsen (TRS) did as much as her a brilliant first lap, making just one more mistake. German Theresa Baeuml (Montesa) followed with 13 marks. In the second lap due to a very hot day all the girls were quite weary. Abellan limited her errors to 8 and it meant

Crucial moments for riders of all the classes of the FIM Europe Trial Championship as in the next two week-ends all titles will be assigned: in Italy and in Belgium the two chosen venues. At first the European riders are expected to enter at Santo Stefano d’Aveto, little village in the mountains behind Genova, where in 2012 one round of the FIM World Championship was held. Do not be frightened by the high temperatures that are crossing Italy - and not only - in these days. Santo Stefano d’Aveto is situated at almost 1000 mt of altitude, consequently some degrees less than any other part are guaranteed. As usual when all the categories are present, on Saturday Women’s and Youths’ Cups will be on the scene. Spanish Berta Abellan (Vertigo) will have to defend her smooth advantage on German Theresa Bauml (Montesa), but Italian Sara Trentini (Montesa), gratified by her

European Trial Championship, Over 40 and Junior Cup at Isola 2000 (France) – Day 2

tobyMartyn
Toby Martyn (Montesa, photo 1) beat his team mate Matteo Grattarola (photo 2) in the second day at Isola 2000, France, third round of the European Trial Championship. Sergio Piardi (Beta, photo 3) and Marcus Kipp (TRS, photo 4) on top in Junior and Over40 class respectively. Still sunny day and still rain in late evening the day before, so the sections dried during the day. Martyn - not too happy of his previous day’s performance - decided to ride quickly and ahead of the group of his rivals, probably in order not to be conditioned by the outcome of the others. And this decision was fruitful for him. He was soon leader at the first deliver of the card: 21 points. Grattarola underestimated some slippery sections and collected 4 ‘five’, ending the loop with 31 marks and was in fourth position, behind Francesc Moret (Montesa) who scored 28 and

European Trial Championship, Over 40 and Junior Cup at Isola 2000 (France) – Day 1

Italian riders swept in Isola 2000, France, for the second round of the FIM Europe Trial Championship. Matteo Grattarola (Sembenini Montesa, photo1), Sergio Piardi (Beta, photo2) and Alessandro Brocco (Scorpa, photo3) triumphed respectively in the European Championship and in the, Junior and Over40 class. In a sunny day the wonderful alpine scenario of this small village situated at 2000 mt of altitude stood out more than the usual. Despite forecasting rain in the afternoon, the weather remained almost the same, so many riders hurried up to finish before the rain, but is was worthless. On the contrary due to a heavy rain dropped the day before, some sections were still slippery in the first part of the competition and improved their grip in the second one. Grattarola did not choose any strategy. He was happy to find sections quite difficult because his skill is at the moment higher than any

Trial riders again on the go in the upcoming weekend. Two days of competitions - counting as number two and three of the 2018 FIM Europe Trial Championship – that will be held in the wonderful alpine scenario of Isola 2000, in France. This small mountain village at 2000 mt of altitude has already hosted many important events concerning this sport - the latest was the Trial des Nations in 2016. The organizers, the Moto Club Grasse, have the fortune to use almost all natural sections, having nearby huge rocks surrounded by pine trees, a very nice picture always appreciated by the spectators. Isola 2000 is very close to Italian border, reachable through the Colle della Lombarda in Cuneo province. It is logic to expect many Italian fans coming to clap Italian riders, who are leading the two most blazoned classes. Matteo Grattarola (Montesa) must defend his first place in

European Trial Women and Youth at Krzeszowice (Poland) – Day 2

martinRiobo2
Spanish Martin Riobo (Gas Gas, photo 1)) and German Theresa Bauml (Montesa, photo 2) were back on top in the third round of the FIM Europe Youth and Women championship, disputed for the second consecutive day in Miekinia, 4 km from Krzeszowice, Poland. The circuit was the same as the day before, with 14 sections slightly simplified in each of the two loops. Still nice weather and high temperatures. This was the time to take a revenge for those riders who did not match the expectations the day before. And a brilliant reaction came curiously in both the main classes. The two-times European champion Theresa Bauml had not yet climbed the highest step of podium, which happened today. But the fight with the former leader Spanish Berta Abellan (Vertigo) was very close. The gap between the two female riders was only one single mark (total of 4 on the two

European Trial Women and Youth at Krzeszowice (Poland) – Day 1

bertaAbellan
Another triumph for Spanish riders in the second round of the FIM Europe Youth and Women championship, held near Krzeszowice, in Poland. Berta Abellan (Vertigo, photo1) doubled the initial success at the first round in the Women class, while Pol Medinya (Beta, photo2) found his first win in the Youth class, after a convincing fourth place in the previous round. Fine weather in the small area of Miekinia, 4 km from the main town where 14 long sections to be repeated twice were fitted for the entering 54 riders.         Berta Abellan started her race with a high concentration and discouraged her rivals delivering her first card at the end of the first loop with only 5 mistakes. All expected a sort of reaction from the two-times European champion Theresa Bauml (Montesa) but she was not at her ease neither in this second round for the 2018

European Trial Championship in Poland – Preview

After the first round held in Castelloli over 1 month ago, the FIM Europe Youth and Women Trial Championship is back in the upcoming week-end. The 2nd and 3rd round are scheduled in Miekinia, 4 km from Krzerzowice, Poland. It is a quite famous venue, become almost a fixed appointment held every 2 years. Thanks to a small area completely closed to traffic, the local club can fully satisfy the main purposes of this event - reserved to women and the very young boys. It means that even those who have not yet the right age to get a regular riding license in their country, are allowed to compete with trial motorcycles. Not only, but Krzerzowice offers a huge benefit also to public, because they can watch the whole competition, simply walking from one section to another, all in not more than 10 km squared. There will be two different

European Trial Championship at Castelloli (Spain) – Day2

Italian Matteo Grattarola (Montesa) proved to be stronger than weather conditions and climbed the highest step of the podium in the first round of the 2018 FIM Europe Trial Championship, held in Castelloli, Spain. Matteo Grattarola and, below, Sergio Piardi - Photo @Phototrial.it To complete the Italian success, Sergio Piardi (Beta) triumphed in the Junior class, while in the Over 40 the first place went to German Marcus Kipp (TRS) with an other Italian, Piero Sembenini (Montesa) in second place. As wrong were the weather forecasts for yesterday, as true they for today. In both days, they indicated rain, and if on Saturday there was a moment of clemency only during the Young and the Women Cup, today the 83 riders had to face a long, rainy day. Marcus Kipp - Photo @Phototrial.it It was necessary to postpone the start of 1 hour to allow the organizers to modify part

European Trial Championship at Castelloli (Spain) – Day1

Spanish riders started very well on their home soil: Martin Riobo (Gas Gas, photo1) and Berta Abellan (Vertigo, photo2) topped Youth and Women classes in Castelloli, Spain, during the first round of the 2018 European Trial Championship. The event was held in the road racing circuit, which 10 years ago had hosted the FIM World Championship. There were 14 sections to repeat twice for the 78 riders at the start. Figures are very good for trial, which can continue to grow up only having a lot of young riders. Two classes for women and two for young riders consent them to approach this discipline easily, choosing the level they feel more adequate. In the Women top class, the favorite German Theresa Bauml (Montesa) - Europen Champion in 2015 and 2016 – was beaten by Berta Abellan, one of the most skilled Spanish newcomers. She gained points in the first lap
