Bajas European Championship: the first event gets under way in Spain Round one of the Bajas European Championship got under way together with the FIM Bajas World Cup, the Spanish National Championship and FIA European Cup for Cross-Country Bajas. Three days event through magnificent Badajoz, Alconchel, Santa Marta, Cheles and Zahinos cities, surrounded by Gwadiana river, natural border between Portugal and Spain. The schedule saw Friday’s Prologue of 5,90 km along Gwadiana River, Saturday two Selective Section (SS) of 133 km and 201 km, Sunday two Selective Section (SS) of 79 km and 76 km. Total length of the race: 495 km of SS and additional 487 km. Portuguese rider David Megre won ahead of Spanish Juan Jesús Sánchez and Freud González. Bajas European Championship: Baja TT Sharish Gin The last seasonal event of the Bajas European Championship took place together with the Baja TT Sharish Gin, raced in Reguengos des Monsarez and Maurao, Portugal, in the last weekend of September. The race took place in the Alentejo region, well-known for wine and olives: 3 days of action with a prologue test of 9,25 km on Friday, two sections of 65 km and 150 km on Saturday and again the section of 150 km on Sunday. After 500 km on hard gravel roads and terrain around Monsarez Castle and Alqueva lake, the Portuguese riders ruled the race, making the challenge for the standings even more thrilling. Bajas European Championship: Baja do Oeste After opening round in Badajoz, Spain, the Bajas European Championship moved to Portugal for the second seasonal round. The Baja do Oeste de Portugal took place in the beautiful location of Torres Vedras. The event was held on three days, from May 6th to 8th on a technical route. After the Prologue of 6 km on Friday, on Saturday riders faced two Selective Sections (SS) of 144,75 km and 81,69 km, while on Sunday one Selective Section (SS) of 160,77 km, completing almost 630 km. Bajas European Championship: Tomiczek, Engeitado and Dias win the Baja TT do Pinhal Vila Velha de Rodão, in Portugal, hosted the opening round of the Bajas European Championship. Baja TT do Pinhal was characterized by 300 km of very technical special tests on a very well-marked route, with an exemplary organization by Escuderia Castelo Branco. In the bikes category the winner was the young Polish Adam Tomiczek of the Orlen Team (Husqvarna). The Portuguese Micael Simão (KTM) finished second ahead of the European champion Tiago Santos (Yamaha). Jorge Brandão (KTM) and veteran Pedro Bianchi Prata (Honda) completed the top 5.
