S2 Podium small

Busca (Italy) 12 June 2016 – In sunny warm conditions and in front of a big crowd  Diego Monticelli took his first win of the season in the S2 European Championship.

In the S2 class the second man in the European championship Giovanni Bussei was absent in Busca, which gave Suzuki Grau rider Petr Vorlicek the chance to extend his lead in the championship. When the light dropped at the start of the first race it was Italian TM Factory Racing rider Diego Monticelli who took the holeshot for the first time this season followed by Gazza Racing rider Devon Vermeulen, Petr Vorlicek. These three riders managed to create a gap in the beginning of the race to Lorenzo Promutico who was riding in fourth place. Monticelli, Vermeulen and Vorlicek were fighting for every meter of asphalt leaving no room for mistakes for each of them. This battle continued till lap 12 of the race. Gazza Racing rider Devon Vermeulen was having problems with his rearbrake and had to slow down not to crash. This gave Petr Vorlicek the chance to pass the Dutchman. Petr Vorlicek than started his chase to Diego Monticelli but the Italian rider was too strong in the first race and made no mistakes after his big crash in Albaida. Lorenzo Promutico in the meantime was having a lonely race in fourth position with a gap of almost 12 second to the leaders of the race. Further down the field Spanish TM Factory rider Joan Llados, Gazza Racing rider Luca Ciaglia and KTM MTR rider Romain Kaivers where having a battle for fifth position. Meanwhile Czech rider Milan Sitniansky was recovering from his bad start and soon joined the other riders for the battle for fifth. With three laps to go Sitniansky managed to take over this fifth position from Romain Kaivers who earlier in the race took over that place from Joan Llados and Luca Ciaglia. Up in front Diego Monticelli kept his first place safe and crossed the finish line 00.401 second in front of Petr Vorlicek. Despite his technical problems Devon Vermeulen managed to keep third place in front of teammate Lorenzo Promutico.
The holeshot in race two was for Suzuki Grau rider Petr Vorlicek followed by Diego Monticelli, Lorenzo Promutico and Joan Llados. In the third lap of the race Diego Monticelli showed he was today the fastest rider of the track passing Petr Vorlicek not to seen back anymore. Petr Vorlicek tried everything he could but already soon in this race he had to settle for second position following Diego Monticelli on two second throughout the entire race. The battle for third was more interesting with Lorenzo Promutico, TM Factory rider Joan Llados and Fabrizio Bartolini. With only a gap less than one second between these three riders there was no room for mistakes for all three of them. Behind this group of riders Milan Sitniansky was riding in sixth position followed by Devon Vermeulen, Luca Ciaglia and Romain Kaivers. In lap 7 Devon Vermeulen had to retire from the race leaving Romain Kaivers in seventh place just before Luca Ciaglia. The Gazza Honda rider was able to pass Romain Kaivers in lap 10, a position he held until the finish line. In the lead Diego Monticelli had no problems and won the race in Busca, his debut in 2016.
