International Conference on Road Safety for Motorcyclists

International Conference on Road Safety for Motorcyclists

The FIM Europe is glad to announce the partnership with AISICO S.r.l. and ERF (European Union Road Federation) for the International Conference on Road Safety for Motorcyclists scheduled on September 20th from 9:00 to 17:30 in the AISICO Test House & Lab in Pereto, near Aquila, Italy.

The main objective of the conference is to raise awareness among experts by analysing from different points of view the problems related to motorcyclists’ road safety. It is estimated that the risk of becoming involved in a fatal accident or with serious consequences is 35 times higher than a car driver (*under equal conditions). The latest ACI-ISTAT report of 2017 shows that the number of road fatalities among motorcyclists rose by 11.9% compared to 2016, becoming the category at most risk.

The conference would be an opportunity to discuss the topic.

The first part of the day will be dedicated to the risks and problems arising from the impact on barriers and the importance of the proper installation of protective equipment for motorcyclists. During this first session there will be two crash tests at AISICO S.r.l. test centre.

After the welcome of Christophe Nicodème, ERF General Manager, and Stefano Calamani, CEO of AISICO S.r.l., there will be the technical-scientific contributions by Prof. Giuseppe Cantisani of the University La Sapienza in Rome and by Dolf Willigers, FEMA General Secretary. This will be followed by a discussion on the current standards and possible future evolutions with Jeanne Foret and Martin Page from ERF and Prof. Mariano Pernetti of the “Second University of Naples”, followed by the analysis of the crash tests by Ing. Stefano Fraschetti and Ing. Carola Elea Brandani of AISICO S.r.l..

The second part of the day will be dedicated to the physical and impact mechanisms in case of an accident with a focus on the consequences at the medical and biomechanical level. Prof. Marco Pierini and Ing. Simone Piantini from the University of Florence will take the floor to discuss the protection of motorcyclists in side-impacts.

At the end of this session it will be possible to attend a motorcycle side-impact crash test made in collaboration with the University of Florence. Afterwards President of AMI Marco Guidarini and Prof. Marco Anghileri of Politecnico di Milano will discuss the physical and impact mechanisms. In closing Prof. Pierini of the University of Florence will analyse the results of the motorcycle side-impact crash test and Mirko Bellmann, ERF member, will discuss the possible future developments of the topic.
