The 3,500 spectators, who attended the European Sidecar Championship Final at Werlte in North Germany, were treated to an exciting evening of close racing, although the meeting did take a little longer than originally scheduled. Despite extensive track watering during the preceding week, the very hot and humid conditions made it difficult for the organising club to maintain an ideal race surface as the meeting progressed. Following a discussion between the riders and the FIM Europe Jury members, additional track grading and watering sessions were added to the night’s schedule and this enabled the riders to race at speeds approx 120 km/h on the 540 metre oval. With each of the 12 Sidecar teams competing in four qualifying heats – before earning their place in one of two Finals (B and A) – racing was always going to be hard and fast. All photos ©Youthstream The FIM Motocross World Championship was in Loket for the MXGP of Czech Republic but crowning champions are the classes of EMX85 and EMX65 along with the Czech round of EMX300 presented by FMF Racing. Taking the title as 2018 European Champion was Camden Mc Lellan in EMX85 and Brando Rispoli in EMX65 while Mike Kras won the Czech round of EMX300 presented by FMF Racing. The Loket circuit provided epic conditions for the riders with overnight rain watering the track perfectly. The EMX classes took advantage of the conditions with amazing racing in front of the thousands of motocross fans lining the massive hillsides. The Semi-Final of the European Pairs Speedway Championship was held at Lonigo, in Italy, in front of around 1.200 spectators. It was an entertaining meeting with close racing and several passes, especially in the second half of the meeting. Sweden won the meeting thanks to a last heat decider against Czech Republic. The Swedish pair passed the impressive Czech Krcmar in the 15th heat, to claim the most important points of the night. The runner-up place went to hosts Italy with Paco Castagna who recorded four wins in a row in a sparkling style. He was well supported by fellow team mate Nicolas Covatti who suffered also a crash during the meeting. The last place on the rostrum went to pre-meeting favourites Czech riders. Olegs Mihailovs will take part in the third round of Tauron Speedway Euro Championship at Daugavpils, in Latvia - the organizers, in fact, gave him a wild card for competition in his hometown. Olegs Mihailovs is 19 year old rider. This season the Latvian is riding for Lokomotiv Daugavpils in the Polish 1st division. Fans had a chance to see Mihailovs in action in the first U21 World Championships final, held in Daugavpils, too. Also for that competition, the organizers gave him a wild card, and the young rider scored 12 points and finished 4th in the final. The Latvian is also fighting in the European Junior Championships, and he has been promoted to final. William Matthijssen will try to continue his domination of international Sidecar racing at the 2018 European Final on Saturday at Werlte, in the North of Germany. The 41-year-old Dutch star goes in search of a hat-trick of consecutive wins and a sixth title, with only German legends Thomas Kunert (11) and Josef Ondreka (10) winners of more than one title. Matthijssen has been dominating the class since the retirement of Kunert, but he has one important omission from his racing CV – none of his previous five victories have been achieved in Germany, so he’ll need to rectify that to continue his winning streak. Wilfred Detz joins Matthijssen in carrying the hopes of The Netherlands, after winning last Sunday’s semi-final on home turf at Roden. This “Call for Expression of Interest” is no more than an invitation to tender and does not constitute either a contract or an offer. On a hot sunny day the Semifinal of the European sidecar Championship was held at Roden, in The Netherlands, in the context of the final of the FIM Long track (Final) .12 teams from 5 Countries took part to the event in front of over 2000 spectators. Some very exciting heats were battled out by the riders in both the 8 qualifying heats as well as in B and A final. The Dutch team of Wilfred Detz and Wendy Arling was unbeaten all day long and rightfully took the chequered flag in the A final. The two British teams finished close, in second and third position. The most spectacular heat of the day was arguably the 7th, where British team Berwick-Hopkins and Danish team Frederiksen-Grandt gave life to an incredible battle for the top position. With the sun out and temperatures rising high the Drive Park race track in Thessaloniki, Greece was ready for the race day of the fourth round of the S1 Supermoto European Championship. The Greek organisation prepared the track at its best and with the spectators already early on the grandstands, Thessaloniki was ready for some racing action. At his return after the injury sustained in Poland, TM Factory Racing rider Thomas Chareyre was back at the top and took the victory in the S1 Class. In the S1 Lites class the victory went to Phoenix Racing rider Nicolas Cousin. Race1 The first race in Thessaloniki started with 22 riders on the grid. At the start it was Phoenix Racing rider Markus Class to take the holeshot into the first corner of the Drive Park race track.
