Start of the Supermoto EC in Capua (Italy)

aboutuemCircuite Internationale del Volturno in Capua (Italy) was the host of the first round of European Supermoto ES2+Young Trophy Championship 2013. First race was dominated by the runner-up of the 2012 season: Dutch Devon Vermeulen (KTM) took the holeshot and lead the race from start to finish.

French rider Frederic Guerin (Suzuki) pressed Vermeulen to make a mistake for the complete 15 laps of the race but was unable to make a pass and saw himself on the second place. Third step of the podium went to Malachi Mitchell-Thomas from Great Britain (TM).

Second race started after the same scenario: Vermeulen (KTM) managing to start in front of the pack with Guerin (Suzuki) close on his tracks. In the third lap Vermeulen makes a braking mistake and parts the track for a short while but manages to get back and maintain his position. Few laps later Guerin closed the gap on Vermeulen and an incident happened in the offroad part while both riders went down. Guerin managed to turn this incident into his advantage and was the first one to get up while Vermeulen set on his tracks. French rider Guerin was the first to arrive at the finish line as he took the overall. Vermeulen had to settle for second place in this race and also for the overall. Finish rider Sami Salstola (TM) won the third place on the podium in the second race while Italian Edgardo Borella (Yamaha) managed to win the third step for the overall via two fourth places.

First and second place of the Young Trophy podium were occupied by the same two riders that won the ES2 – Frederic Guerin (Suzuki) on the first place and Devon Vermeulen (KTM), while third step of the Under 21 Trophy went to Malachi Mitchell-Thomas of Great Britain (TM).

Next event is scheduled for Vairano-IT (Grand Prix of Europe) on the 25-26th of May.
