FIM Europe Supermono Cup in Assen (The Netherlands)

Podium lowThe European Supermono Cup was held at Assen, NL together with the BeNeCup under the name Battle of Nations. The event had many nations competing in the different classes and 21 riders participated. The weather was slightly cold but it was a good race weekend.

Race 1 (Saturday): Lukas Wimmer, the championship leader, took the lead before Josef Frauenschuh and Jerry van de Bunt on third place. Jerry overtook Josef on lap 6 and Lukas had a comfortable ride to the win, before Jerry van de Bunt and Josef Frauenschuh. Ari Voss who started from third place on the grid crashed at the first lap.
Race 2 (Sunday): in the morning it was cold, just below zero, but the race was at 13.10 and the temperature was slightly better, approx 10 degrees. Both Lukas Wimmer, Jerry van de Bunt and Josef Frauenschuh had a good fight at the start of the race. But Lukas and Jerry were the fastest riders today and they fought right up to the chequered flag with Lukas able to win. Ari Voss, who could have been a contender, crashed also in this race. With this victory Lukas won the 8th consecutive race this year (all of the races in the Cup) and became also the FIM Euprope Supermono Cup champion, 2nd place for Josef Frauenschuh and third place in the series for Jerry van de Bunt.
