European Supermono Cup in Zolder (Belgium)

PodiumLukas Wimmer was the big winner of the two FIM Europe Supermono Cup races at the Begium circuit of Zolder. Guest rider and former multiple Superbike Champion Arie Vos from the Netherlands took a third and second place on the 690 KTM Super Duke.

In race1 (8 laps) held on Saturday afternoon with sunny and warm weather (32°C) Lukas Wimmer from Austria took a decisive victory with an appropriate advantage (3.7 seconds) on Dutch Rotax rider Jerry van de Bunt.
Guest rider Arie Vos who missed the prestart and had to start from behind had a blistering start but could not join the two leaders and had a thrilling battle with Austrian Josef Frauenschuh for third place. Allan Ostli onboard his JSB Ducati had to pull in with technical problems. Christian Schmeink from Germany finished in fifth position followed by his compatriot Manni Kehrmann and Dutch rider Niels Gerritsen. Franck Delaury from France was involved in a crash and was taken to hospital with a leg fracture.
In race2 (10 laps) held on Sunday afternoon, with cloudy weather and 23°C, the spectators saw an exciting battle between Lukas Wimmer and Jerry van de Bunt. The two young riders were flipping coins each round for best positions until van de Bunt had to pull in at the penultimate round due to technical problems.
Vos riding on a third place already built a nice lead on Josef Frauenschuh. However Vos decided to slow down as he could not close the gap on the leaders. Vos and Frauenschuh made a nice battle and due to the DNF of Jerry van de Bunt, Vos managed to take 2nd place before Frauenschuh .
Christian Schmeink ended fourth followed by Niels Gerritsen and David Hampton.
Emiliano Lazzarini (DNF) was involved in a crash with Britton David Hampton and Karl JohannPress Release nr 176/2015 – European Supermono in Zolder (Belgium) from Germany but the last two managed to pick up their bikes and scored points for the Championship.
The next race will be in German Speedweek, Oschersleben, Germany on August 22-23rd.
