HONDA 150 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP AT LOMMEL (BELGIUM) DAY 2

After taking the race win today, Emil Weckman has extended his lead in the Honda 150 European Championship in the deep sand of Lommel at the MXGP of Belgium.

After taking the holeshot, Weckman opened up a gap to the rest of the field aboard his CRF150R and maintained it until the chequered flag. The Finn rode a smart race to ensure that he did not take any unnecessary risks on the ever changing and challenging sand track.
Teutschenthal overall GP winner Hakon Fredriksen rode hard throughout the moto to try and close the gap to the red plate holder but was unable to gain the required ground. Fredriksen crossed the line second.
The battle for third raged throughout the moto between Andrea Adamo and wildcard rider Matheo Miot, with the pair swapping positions throughout the entirety of the race. It looked like Miot had done enough for third after overtaking Adamo going into the last lap, but the young Italian was able to regain his position leaving Miot to cross the line fourth. The top five was rounded out by Henry Vesilind.
The Honda 150 European Championship will now head to Switzerland for round four of the 2016 season (6-7 August).
Emil Weckman stated: “The start was better this time and I got the flow straightaway so was easy to ride from the front. The track was harder today, I don’t know why but I like it anyway. Switzerland is a new track but I have heard it is like England with some big jumps so I’m really looking forward to it”.
Davy Dousselaere, Honda Europe Off-Road Manager, commented: “Today you could see how different the track was compared to yesterday. It has been tough but all of our riders have proven that they can tackle the demanding track here at Lommel. It was another good win for Emil Weckman but we also had another good battle throughout the race with Andrea Adamo and one of our wildcard riders Matheo Miot. We now look to Switzerland next weekend, which will be another challenge for our CRF150R riders as it is all new for them. I think, as we have seen this weekend, they will rise to the challenge”.
