European Supermoto SM85 and S3 Championships in Pleven (Bulgaria)

Pleven pic-2

Can Oncu (65) and his brother Deniz, leaders of the SM85 class

The all asphalt SuperMoto circuit of Pleven in Bulgaria hosted the second round of the European SuperMoto Championship for the classes SM85 and S3.

As usual the track offered perfect conditions for racing and the standard extreme temperatures of 40°C.
The SM85 class this season is dominated by the Turkish twins Deniz and Can Oncu who proved to be the top class SuperMoto riders. Their podium in Pleven was not a surprise at all, however the two brothers repeated the Arad scenario from Round 1 and shared one win and one second place each in both heats.
Deniz Oncu won the second heat ahead of his brother Can Oncu. The fight for third position as usual was until the last lap: this time local rider Dimitar Petrov struggled in the battle with the Turkish Bahattin Sofuoglu and following a crash in the last lap of Race 2, the Bulgarian rider managed to finish in top three.
In the S3 class, Hakan Halmi from Bulgaria left no chances to his rivals to reach him and he easily won both races, leaving the second place to Mucahit Zengin with a good gap. Yanislav Stoynov backed up Halmi during the two races, but his task of getting to the podium was eased after the technical failure of the Bulgarian Ivelin Manev who watched the races from the pitlane after his mechanical misfortunes.
The next event of the Series will be hosted again in Pleven, on July 12th, so whether the Oncu brothers and Hakan Halmi will keep their position or not will be known in less than one month.
