European Supermono Cup in  Schleiz (Germany)

1 IDM Schleiz podium 1

Van de Bunt scored a double win at the ‘Schleizer Dreieck”: last weekend 32 riders took part to the third round of the FIM Europe Supermono Cup at the Schleizer Dreieck (Germany), which was held as a supporting program during the Superbike IDM-event.

This round was born by a cooperation with the KTM Duke Battle and the Pro Mono-riders. The races were overshadowed by a serious accident during the second qualification, which occurred to Belgian rider Michael Verbrugghe, who suffered injuries at his shoulder, lung and, above all, vertebrae: he underwent surgery for 5 hours in his back but at the moment his legs are paralysed.
In Race1 of the European Supermono-Cup the winner was Jerry van de Bunt (NED), in front of Mike Velthuijzen (NED) and Ezequiel Iturrioz (ARG) (photo1)
Jerry van de Bunt on the Happeck Rotax 449 started this race from the pole. But Ezequiel Iturrioz on a HKR EVO2 R had a very good start and was able to lead the first three laps. Then Mike Velthuijzen on a TZM 250 MVS Yamaha seemed to overcome his technical problems from the last races and took over. But at the end Jerry van de Bunt showed why he had got the pole and  with a great pace he managed to climb from the eight place after the start to the lead.
In Race2 Jerry van de Bunt (NED) won again, this time in front of Josef Frauenschuh (AUT) and Mike Velthuijzen (NED) (photo2).
Although Jerry van de Bunt had less power because he used a 450-cylinder engine, he entered the first corner as fourth. But Ezequiel Iturrioz had again a very good start and took the lead in the first corner. Unfortunately he suffered a broken shift pedal and had to stop the race after the third lap.
In the second lap Jerry van de Bunt took the lead and at each lap he edged off with almost one second per lap. But the three riders behind him – Lukas Wimmer, Mike Velthuijzen and Josef Frauenschuh – made very interesting fights. At the end Frauenschuh gained the second place with an incredible1.35,240, which was the fastest racelap. Velthuijzen finished in third position in front of Wimmer.
