Under cloudy but dry conditions the riders of the S2 class started the race day at the Motodromo of Castelletto di Branduzzo. When the lights dropped for the first race it was Championship leader Suzuki Grau rider Petr Vorlicek who took the hole shot into the first corner. Behind him it was Swiss wildcard rider Raul Tschupp followed by TM Factory Racing rider Diego Monticelli and his teammate Joan Llados.
KTM MTR rider completed the top five at the end of the first lap. TMS Honda rider Milan Sitniansky had a not so good start and had to start the race from sixth position. An even more worse start had the fastest rider in the time practice SBD Union Bike rider Giovanni Bussei. His TM had some trouble with the first meters and Bussei was forced to start his way back from halfway the field. Vorlicek was putting in some good and fast laptimes but the competition knew he didn’t want to take any risks and kept following him. In lap five Monticelii decided it was time to move on and passed Tschupp and Vorlicek in one lap making him the new leader of the race. Bussei on his turn showed that his speed from Saturday was still and already after a few laps he was back in third position behind Vorlicek. Swiss wildcard rider Tschupp made some small mistakes and felt back to fourth position just behind Bussei and before TMS Hond rider Milan Sitniansky, who was having difficulties to find the right rhythm in the beginning of the race. Only one or two seconds behind the leading top five, KTM MTR rider Romain Kaivers and TM Factory Racing rider Joan Llados were closing in on the rest and a group of seven riders was formed. In the lead Monticelli was so fast that soon after he took the lead, the Italian managed to create a gap of seven seconds to the rest of the riders.
In lap nine Bussei took over second place from Vorlicek making him second. Swiss rider Tschupp recovered from his mistakes and didn’t give up and came back to third position and one lap later he also passed Bussei at the entrance of the off-road section. Bussei stalled his bike and wasn’t able to get it started until the whole field of riders passed him. Under a big applause of the Italian spectators he finished his race in sixteenth position. Mainwhile in the lead, Monticelli passed the finish in first position, seven seconds later followed by Tschupp and Suzuki Grau rider Petr Vorlicek. Because of the trouble of Bussei, Sitniansky finished in fourth while TM Factory Racing Joan Llados completed the top five.

S2 Race 2
When the light dropped for the second race, Petr Vorlicek took the hole shot again but this time he was immediately passed in the second corner by SBD Union Bike rider Giovanni Bussei who wanted to set something straight after his bad luck in the first race. Diego Monticelli was in third, followed by Raul Tschupp, Milan Sitniansky and Romain Kaivers. TM Factory racing rider Monticelli also decided not to stay behind Vorlicek and passed him also on the first lap. Behind the top six, TM Factory racing rider Joan Llados and Gazza Racing rider Luca Ciaglia were fighting for seventh position in the race.
On lap six Vorlicek ran wide in one of the fast corners, giving the other rider the chance to pass him making him fall back to sixth position in the race. Vorlicek knew that this position was more than enough to secure the European title and decided not to take any risks and just followed the group of rider in front of him. In the lead Monticelli was all over the back of Bussei, pushing hard for the lead.
With 3 laps to go Monticelli passed Bussei at the end of the long straight ,making Bussei brake hard to avoid a crash of the two riders. After he was passed Bussei tried to get back to Monticelli but Italian TM rider was too fast today in the races. Behind Monticelli and Bussei, Sitniansky took over third place from Tschupp who was also being chased by Kaivers but the young Belgium rider ran out of time and had settle for fifth position at the finish. Monticelli didn’t make any mistakes and crossed the finish line in first 1,8 seconds in front of Bussei. TMS Honda rider Milan Sitnianky completed the top three in race two. With his sixth place Czech Suzuki Grau rider Petr Vorlicek took the 2016 European championship title.
