5th Round of Supermoto EC in Latina (Italy)

aboutuemLatina in Italy hosted round 5 of Supermoto European Championship for class ES2, and for Young trophy as well. 16 riders participate at the event. It was supposed to be the first night race, but due to the safety reasons it was finally decided to run all races during the daylight.

Although Malachi Mitchell-Thomas (TM) was the fastest in the time practice, he was not in the position to lead the race 1. At the start Edgardo Borella (Yamaha) took the lead, but after six laps Diego Monticelli (Honda) overtook him and leading the race to the chequered flag. Behind him it was a big battle of 5 riders for second place. Two laps before the finish Sami Salstoa (TM) overtake Mitchell-Thomas and these three riders were on the first three positions. Championship leader Devon Vermuelen (KTM) suffered from technical problems, finished on the last position. Monticelli was also winner of this race for Young trophy ahead of Mitchell – Thomas second and Ben Stafford (Honda) third. In the race 2 Borella was leading the whole race from the start to the finish. Two thirds of the race Finn Toni Klem was second, but then he fall and another Finn, Asseri Kingselin took second place. Third place goes to Czech rider Milan Sitniaksky. In the overall classification Borella was a winner, with Salstoa second and Kingelin third. Mitchell–Thomas will have a red plate of championship leader in the next race in Triscina (September 15), but the gap is not big. Difference between first 5 places is only 12 points with 2 events to the end of the season.

Mitchell-Thomas is also a new leader of Young trophy. Today he was second in both races in this was enough for victory. Second was Sitniaksky and third Monticelli.
