Superstock 600 EC and KTM Junior Cup in Brno

aboutuemThe second half of the Superstock 600cc European Championship season began today at the Brno Circuit (Czech Republic). Also this year the track, celebrating its 25th birthday, offered perfect racing conditions.

On Saturday, already in the first lap it was Dutchman Michael van der Mark who conquered the first position of the Superstock 600cc EC. But pole setter Riccardo Russo (Italy) and Gauthier Duwelz (Belgium) followed him closely. They were joined by Danish Alex Schacht on fourth position. The thrilling last two laps showed a couple of overtaking manoeuvres and finally Honda rider Michael van der Mark crossed the finish line at first. Duwelz had a gap of only one tenth and the former championship leader Russo finished on third position (both Yamaha). In winning the race van der Mark moved to the top of the championship, leading with only two points ahead of Russo. Each of these riders has three wins apiece in 2012.

After rain in the morning of Sunday both European Cup races this afternoon had dry track conditions. In the KTM Junior Cup, a group consisting of four riders fought for the victory. At the end it was Austrian Lukas Wimmer with his KTM Duke 690 who saw the chequered flag at first. In the last lap Spanish rider Gaston Garcia overtook his compatriot Javier Orellana and became second. Jean Francois Demoulin (France) was close to podium on fourth position. With 25 points for his victory Wimmer moved on the top of the overall ranking and is leading with 8 points in front of Orellana.

In the Two Countries Cup Denis Sacchetti (SD Rider Team Kawasaki) took a clear win from Olmo Spigariol (Way of Life Kawasaki). Third, and first of the Russian riders, was Sergey Vlasov (Yakhnich Motorsports Yamaha) from team-mate Dakota Mamola.

The next round will take place on the 4th and 5th of August at Silverstone (Great Britain).
