Sidecarcross and Quadcross of European Nations at Cingoli (Italy) – Day2

Today in Cingoli 3 races for sidecars plus 3 races for quads took place to decide the Nations team results. Perfect weather greeted the large crowd in the morning which was to change at the start of the last quad race.

Quads- Team USA dominated the races but not without incident.
In the first race Thomas Porter Brown holeshot but within 2 laps his team mate Joel Hetrick was in 2nd position despite starting on the second row. They continued to pull away from the rest of the field but Hetrick’s quad suffered engine failure which put him out of the race. Italy’s Andrea Cesari finished 2nd with French duo of Antoine Cheurlin and Yoann Gillouin taking 3rd and 4th place.
The second race was totally dominated by the 2 Team USA riders, Chad Wienen and Joel Hetrick with Wienen holeshotting from the front row and Hetrick slotting into second at the first corner despite again selecting to start from the back row. These two riders put on an exhibition ride showing jaw dropping skills and shadowed each other to the chequered flag with almost a dead heat across the line. Again the 2 French riders of Adrian Mangieu and Yoann Gillouin finished 3rd and 4th putting France in the lead after 2 races. As the 3rd race stared heavy rain fell which made conditions very difficult and the race was red-flagged after 19 minutes for safety reasons due to fog decscending from the hills down to the track. Visibility was severely restricted for the riders and the marshals could not see further than 20 – 30meters. At the stopping of the race the 2 team USA riders, Thomas Porter Brown and Chad Wienen were 1st and 4th respectively which gave the team victory to the USA on 9 points with France finishing 2nd on 16 points and Ireland taking bronze on 40 points.

Sidecars – The first sidecar race was won by the Dutch reigning World Champions Bax/Kunnas from French pairing of Auvray/Musset.
Consistency was the order of the day with the team Netherland riders putting on the most consistent performance throughout the 3 races to take the gold medals on 14 points from team France on 22 points with team Belgium on 29 points taking the bronze medals. All 3 races were fiercely contested with many of the riders and passengers regular competitors in the World Championship series. Team France was able to take the silver medals due to the 2 race wins of the 2017 Vice World Champion pairing of Giraud/Mucenieks.
This 2017 edition of the Sidecarcross and Quadcross of Nations has to go down as the best ever event on this beautiful and demanding track maintained in perfect condition, enhanced by three quad teams from outside Europe, team USA, team Australia and team Argentina.
