Maxxis European Quad in Morso (Denmark)

fim europeOn the very nice MotoCross Arena in Erslev-Morso (Denmark) inside small hills, where spectators can see nearly total track. The 100. Birthday of DMU has been celebrated with nearly all MX classes national, from 50cc Kids up to MX1 and Side Cars. The European Quads Series final race came on top of it. Saturday suffered under very strong rain, so after free practice the practice and Qualifying sessions had been cancelled! The Sunday morning qualifying practice saw 25 quads fighting for the best positions behind the starting grid. Best time did Edgars Mengelis, Lavia, with 2:16,876 min, but he had been punished 5 places back because of stopping on the track. So Olli Koskela got 1st position, Second best was Mike van Grinsven, and third got Casper H. Holm, Denmark.

In Heat 1, holeshot went to Nr. 92, Olli Koskela. And this smart Finnish rider did a perfect heat, didn’t let anyone pass and won this first heat in Erslev. After the start Edgars Mengelis was only 4th, behind young Denish Sebastian Michelsen and Mike van Grinsven. But already in the 3rd lap Mengels got 2nd and tried to attack Koskela. Van Grinsven, being 3rd until lap 9 was than overtaken by Denish Casper Honoré Holm, riding very well from 5th position in lap 1 into a safe 3rd position at the end. Mike van Grinsven saw the checkered Flag as 4th and herewith he is already the new European Champion Quads! Position Nr. 5 went to Netherlands Ingo ten Vregelar in front of Priit Järvloo.

In Heat 2, holeshot went again to Nr. 92, Olli Koskela. Koskela was in the lead for the first 4 laps, than Mengelis overtook and didn’t give the first position to anyone else. From 5th position the new European Champion van Grinsven came up into Position 6 after 6 laps and got 3rd. Again a very good race gave Ingo ten Vregelar and took the 4th position home. 5th place went to best Denish Christoffer Vinde Walter in front of Marc de Vries.

The Overall winner of the day was: Edgars Mengelis, 2nd Olli Koskela, and 3rd Mike van Grinsven.
