Supermoto EC in Sosnova (Czech Republic)

fim europe Beautiful track of Autodrom Ceska Lipa in Sosnova (Czech Repulic) was the host of the third round of the European Supermoto SM2 Championship. Riders from eight different nations gathered to race in front of more than 5.000 spectators that filled the tribunes.

Czech rider Milan Sitniansky (TM) managed to defend his pole-position after the start in front of Italians Yuri Guardala (Honda) and Fabrizio Bartolini (Honda). Finish rider Toni Klem (KTM) and Dutch rider Devon Vermeulen (TM) started to battle it out even from the first lap, Vermeulen managing to win two positions in only one lap, after passing both Klem and Bartolini. Runner-up European Champion last year and Championship leader after two events with maximum points Devon Vermeulen (TM) was not satisfied with his positione and forced Yuri Guardala (Honda) into third place in lap 4, setting up for a chase of leader Milan Sitniansky (TM). Guardala did not manage to hold on to his third position as he fell down in lap 8 and had to stop at the pits to repair his motorcycle. Milan Sitniansky (TM) managed to maintain a comfortable 2 second gap over Devon Vermeulen (TM) and went on to win the race in front of an ecstatic home crowd. Third place at the end of the first race was Toni Klem (KTM), followed by Finish Asseri Kingelin (Aprilia).

Second race had to be restarted after a red flag in lap 3. At the restart it was again Czech rider Milan Sitniansky (TM) who came up leading the pack, closely followed by Asseri Kingelin (Aprilia), Yuri Guardala (Honda) and Toni Klem (KTM). These four riders gapped the field leaving behing Devon Vermeulen (TM) who was riding in fifth position. Toni Klem (KTM) managed to pass both riders in front of him to get to the second place with little over 4 laps remaining of the race. Klem’s charge brought him wheel to wheel with leader Milan Sitniansky just like in Race 1 Czech rider proved to be made out of iron and remained on top to take the double win of the day and the sympathy of the local crowd.

50 points for the European Championship were won by Czech Milan Sitniansky (TM). Second on the overall was Toni Klem with 42 points, followed by Asseri Kingelin (Aprilia) who scored 38 points. Leader of the Championship is still Devon Vermeulen (KTM) with 138 points heading to the fourth round in Cremona (Italy) on the 6th of July.
