European Street Freestyle Cup at Budapest (Hungary)

The first event of the new discipline in FIM Europe was organised in the context of the European Truck Championship at Hungaroring circuit near the Hungarian capital Budapest in front of around 1.200 spectators.

The foreseen interest of the riders was higher than the number of participants – 16 – but the attending riders made a really great show for the spectators. The racing system of this discipline divided the event into 3 parts: 1st – compulsory program with basic tricks; 2nd – nest trick and the 3rd and final – five minutes-long free program.
All the riders had made their best in the competition in all 3 sections. The Finals were divided into two parts both with 8-8 riders. The first group showed their program in beautiful weather but at the middle of the second group sudden rain stopped the competition.
Thanks to the organising staff within one hour the last 4 riders managed to make their show in the same conditions as well as the others.
The final results see in 1st position the 16 year-old Foma Kalinin from Russia; second is the 42 year-old rider from Hungary Herczeg Balázs and the third is Lukasz Belz from Poland.

The results show that the new generation is knocking very hardly on the “door” and the more experienced riders have to spin up themselves to be able to keep the rhythm. It is a very nice progress in a brand new official sport. The next round of the Cup Series will be during the Intermot Exhibition in Cologne, Germany, next October.
