Sidecarcross of European Nations and Quadcross of European Nations On 05th-06th October the MC Schwedt circuit in Germany hosted the Sidecarcross of European Nations and Quadcross of European Nations. Quad MX Race 1 (Group A + B) Going into the first race of the day, the question everybody had on their mind was whether or not anybody could stop Team USA, as they were by far the quickest riders out on circuit throughout the duration of Saturday’s qualifying events. That question was soon to be answered because as the gate dropped for the first race of the day, it was Team Netherlands’ rider #7 Joe Maessen who got the best launch. Maessen made an excellent getaway but it wasn’t long before Team USA’s #2 rider Thomas Brown got the better of Maessen and led the race coming across the line for the first time. Sidecarcross of European Nations and Quadcross of European Nations: qualifying Top teams shine as Belgium and Holland claim the best sidecar starts, and the USA rules in Quads Situated North-East of Berlin, and very close to the border with Poland, the Schwedt circuit in Germany offered the perfect venue for this annual team competition, attracting the very best sidecar and quad motocross racers in the world. The fight for grid places was therefore every bit as fiercely contested as any individual qualifying session. Whilst the air was cold, the overnight rain had passed, with the track in good condition. There was a sense of high drama in the air ahead of this gripping team event. A handsome entry list of over thirty-six crews was divided into three classes (A/B/C), but split into just two groups for free practice. For the actual qualifying races, the three groups would compete separately against

But they had to fight hard on the demanding track of Slagelse which proved difficult to overtake on. Team Ireland finished second on 39 points with the 3 riders, Justin Reid, Mark McLernon and Leon Rogers with some consistent high placings. Team Netherlands was third on 44 points with the team of Richardo Phoelich, Joe Maessen and Mike Van Grinsven but Van Grinsven had bad luck when leading the final race and suffering a machine failure. With the weather varying between clouds, sunshine and some showers of rain, team USA produced the perfect result with a win in the first race by Thomas Brown and again a win in the 3rd race by Chad Wienen and still had the luxury of a second position in race 2 by Jeffrey Rastrelli which the team did not need because it is the best two results that count for the overall team placings. The Netherlands finished second overall on 5 points with Joe Maessen finishing third in race 2 and Mike Van Grinsven second in race 3.
