Fatal crash for Berto Camlek at Hungaroring

Yesterday at Hungaroring (Hungary), immediately after the start of Alpe Adria SBK race 2, there was an accident in the first turn. Slovenian rider Berto Camlek died after his crash. Berto Camlek was born on 30th April 1970. He had started racing in the Eighties. He took part to 8 races in World Superbike Championship, 2 races in 2001, 4 races in 2004 and 2 races in 2006. From the beginning of his career he had been participating in Alpe Adria Road Racing championship, where he had won the title several times. He was known as a warm and nice guy, always ready to help. FIM Europe, together with Alpe Adria Road Racing commission members, all staff from Slovakia Racing and all the people from the paddock express condolences to Camlek family and to all his relatives and friends.

European Drag Racing in Hockenheim (Germany)

Martijn de Haas. Photo by Ivan Sansom and Rose Hughes The second round of the FIM Europe Drag Racing Championship and Cup were held in very hot weather at the Hockenheimring in Germany. The Nitrolympix were celebrating their 30th year and the 75.000 spectators who attended the event were hoping to witness fast and close racing worthy of the milestone. They were not disappointed.     In Super Twin Bike, Martijn de Haas (NED) qualified at the top of a six bike field with a 6.841 second run. In eliminations, de Haas progressed to the final round where he eventually raced against Job Heezen (NED). The final promised a close race but Heezen suffered an engine explosion after 100m, leaving de Haas the win with a 6.756 second pass. Gert-Jan Laseur. European Enduro in Jämsä (Finland) - Day 2

Tom Sagar - Photo by Robert Pairan The second day of the Enduro Championship in Jämsä (Finland) brought a surprise with the overall victory of Tom Sagar: on the demanding track, the British rider has been in advantage after the third place in the overall of yesterday. "I had to do well in the enduro tests," Sagar said . "The cross track was too slippery for my 450”. At the end he won before Marko Tarkkala and Roni Nikander, who had  preceeded him the first day.Thus the KTM rider now leads not only in the E2 class, but also in the overall ranking of all riders, because defending champion Maurizio Micheluz was not better than the day before: "I have to concentrate on the title in the class, where I could keep my advantage”, said the Italian. ITP European Quadcross Championship in Kegums (Latvia) - Day 2

Photo by Rien Willems The second day of the last round of ITP European Quadcross Championship was held in Kegums (Latvia)Among 24 starters, the holeshot went to the new European Champion Edgars Mengelis shortly ahead of Mike van Grinsven. The leader after lap 1 was Mengelis, in front of van Grinsven, the Russian Vlasov, and Jani Tanhuanpaa, who still had a chance for the over all podium. Priit Järvloo, another candidate for a place on the podium, behind Mengelis and/or Van Grinsven, was only in 9th position. After 5 laps van Grinsven made a mistake and fell back into 4th position. Vlasov was  second and Tanhuanpaa third for 5 laps. In lap 11 van Grinsven gained again one position and he will finish the race in 3rd position.Vlasov kept the 4th place only for 1 lap, then Karlis Bole, from Latvia, managed to overtake him and he was in 4th positio,

European Enduro in Jämsä (Finland) - Day 1

It was an extremely physically demanding first day at the third round of the Enduro Championship in Jämsä (Finland). In perfect weather conditions, the over 50 kms long circular course presented many rocks, roots and driveways. The day foresaw three courses over 50 kms each in the forests of Jämsä with three special stages each.More than half of all riders did not arrive at the finish-line, and gave up from exhaustion or timeout.In such difficult conditions the race today was clearly dominated by the Finnish riders with guest starters Roni Nikander (KTM) and Marko Tarkkala (Beta). Only in third place in the overall standings, the British KTM-rider Tom Sagar, who was able to prevail against two other Finns behind him. This result gave the British the leadership in the European Championship, as the reigning champion, Maurizio Micheluz, finished only in the 18th place overall, third in the E1 class. Micheluz

ITP European Quadcross Championship in Kegums (Latvia) – Day 1

Edgars Mengelis, from Latvia, leader of qualifying - Photo by Rien Willems The sixth and final ITP EMX QuadCross event of the season 2015 is being held by the well known organizer in Latvia, in Kegums, approximately 55 kms East of the Latvian Capital Riga. The weather was hot on Saturday and for Sunday some rain and temperatures up to  25°C are announced. The track was very well prepared and there have been 35 entries and 26 riders present, which is quite good considering that it is the last race of the seson. On Saturday's qualification practice the pole position went to the European Champion of last year, Mike van Grinsven, in front of the new Champion, the Latvian Edgars Mengelis, who is 1.46 secs behind. Third position went to Jani Tanhuanpaa, FIN.

FIM Europe and Università di Roma Foro Italico for a Master in Motorcycling Management

On Thursday 6th August a meeting between the FIM Europe and the Università degli Studi di Roma “Foro Italico” was held in Rome. Topic of the meeting, which was attended by the FIM Europe President Dr Wolfgang Srb, the Rector of the University Prof Fabio Pigozzi and the FIM Europe Secretary General Alessandro Sambuco, was the presentation by the FIM Europe of a first draft for the organization of a Master in Motorcycling Management to be held in collaboration with the Fondazione Universitaria Foro Italico.There was a shared vision of the needs to which the Master will be addressed and of the content to offer, and which is proceeding with the definition of the organizational details.The recruitment, selection and development of sporting talents in motorcycling is one of the main goals of the European Motorcycling National Federations.The main actors in this process of creation of the next Champions are surely

European Team Speedway U21 in Gislaved (Sweden) – Preview

The four participating Countries are the host nation Sweden, Denmark (which took the place of withdrawn Russian team), Germany and Finland. Stages with many stones and roots but also with a lot of sand are waiting for the riders - racing through the different conditions is a particular challenge.In practice, the paddock is the only service point on the 52 kms long course. European Individual Speedway U21 Semi-Final 1 in Debrecen (Hungary)

The circuit of Debrecen, in Hungary, hosted the Semi-Final 1 of the Individual Speedway Under 21 European Championship. Despite a very hot and sunny day, the Debrecen Speedway SE club worked hard to produce a very fast race track that gave the spectators an excellent racing day. As the meeting progressed, the track conditions improved, and it was difficult to forecast who would be the eventual winner. With nine qualifying places (+ one reserve) being available to progress into the European Final at Silkeborg (Denmark), the winner was Andzejs Lebedevs. The second place went to Maksym Drabik from the Poland, while third place went to Polish rider Bartosz Smektala. Everyone in the Track Racing world will now be focusing on the European Final which is being staged at  29.08.2015, in what will be an extremely hard race meeting prior to the crowning of the Individual Speedway U 21 European Champion
