Individual Grass Track European Championship: SF1 in Germany

Individual Grass Track European Championship: SF1 in Germany DMSC Bielefeld have been hosting Grass Track events for 50 years and staging successful FIM and FIM Europe Championship events at the Leineweberring, a big 700 metre Grass Track Circuit, in Bielefeld, in the north of Germany. The first being in 1985, with the UEM Semi Final event. This year was no exception with fast, close and very competitive racing throughout the day, with this event being the first of two Semi Final. The starting line-up consisted of 18 riders from 7 nations (Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland,  France,  Great Britain, Netherlands, and Germany), with the top 9 riders qualifying through to the European Final, which will take place at Werlte, Germany, on 22nd July. European Individual Grass Track: Romano Hummel is the new champion Photo credit: Jesper Veldhuizen The European Individual Grass Track raced its third and last event in Swingfield, a small and nice village located approximately 10 km north of Folkestone on the North Downs. With heavy rain the day before the event, the Swingfield circuit was in excellent condition, ready to host the top eighteen Grass Track riders from across Europe. With three riders from Denmark, two from France, four from Germany, four from the Netherlands and six riders from the host federation the event was going to be a close fought battle. On the morning of the event, a large crowd and riders alike were met with sunny autumn conditions, which lasted into the early afternoon, before the temperature dropped later in the day – but more importantly the rain held off, offering idea track conditions and a circuit that

European Individual Grass Track: SF2 Semi Final 2 of the European Individual Grass Track in Werlte, a town in the Emsland district, in Lower Saxony, Germany. The race took place in good weather conditions on a well-prepared track thank to the excellent job of the Organization. In front of a warm home-crew of 5 thousand spectators, all the riders gave their best showing great skills. The Dutch Romano Hummel ruled the event, ahead of the German Kart and Briton Cooper. European Individual Grass Track Championship: Mathieu Tresarrieu is the new champion One single heat for the European Individual Grass Track Championship. The race took place in Tayac, France, on Saturday 1st August as due to the Covid-19 emergency it was not possible to organize the final in England. In a short time, the Tayac club managed to arrange all kinds of regulations to welcome the riders and 1.800 spectators. After a good training the riders went on a well-prepared track for the first twelve heats. It was a though race and six riders went into the A-final: after a very hard final Mathieu Tresarrieu became European Champion. Second position for Romano Hummel even with a bad start, while Dave Meijerink took the third place.

The Eenrum club worked hard during Saturday evening to ensure that despite the wet weather in the North of Holland, they would have a track ready for racing the following day. With the morning practice sessions duly completed, everyone was focused on a mouth-watering event during the afternoon. With the tapes rising in heat 1, Aron Vale flipped in the first corner and Raphael San Millan collided with Oliver Möller,so the race was red flagged and the riders needing medical attention. European Individual Grass Track Championship: the Final Photo Credit Jesper Veldhuizen Winner’s podium – from left to right Vice European Champion – Paul Hurry, 2019 European Champion – Zach Wajtknecht and third placed Kenneth Kruse Hansen The final match of the European Individual Grass Track Championship took place on Saturday 17th August in Bad Hersfeld, Germany. With a line-up of the top riders from six European federations, this meeting was always going to be a hard-fought event. During the first six races of the of the meeting, the racing was fast and furious with Danish rider Kenneth Kruse Hanson and Brit Zach Wajtknecht leading, both undefeated on 10 points. During heat 7 the rain started to fall making a very fast and grippy race track into something very much more slippery and unpredictable. European Individual Grass Track Championship - SF2 : next stage the final! From left: 2nd place Paul Hurry, winner James Shanes and 3rd place Kenneth Kruse Hansen The semi-final 2 of the European Individual Grass Track Championship was raced on 23rd June at Leamington Spa, Great Britain. In a very hot contested meeting riders from six federations competing for the top nine qualification places for the European Final, that will be held at Bad Hersfeld in Germany on 17th August. Following completion of the qualifying heats, the English riders dominated the top places with Zach Wajtknecht and James Shanes tied on points for 1st and 2nd place and Paul Hurry and Richard Hall tied for 3rd place going through to the A Final. With Shanes flying from the tapes in the Final, closely chased by Wajtknecht, this was going to a hard race. Unfortunately, Wajtknecht crashed during the second lap.

From the 18 competitors taking part in the event on Sunday, just the top nine will qualify for the European Final, which will be held in Bad Hersfeld, Germany on 17th August. European Individual Grass Track Championship SF1: the round in Germany Photo credit: Jesper Veldhuizen The 2019 European Individual Grass Track Championship got off to a great start with some very hard and competitive racing in front of about 4.000 spectators on an extremely hot day (29°) at the Leineweberring in Bielefeld in the north of Germany. The official start of the meeting was delayed by ¾ hour due to work undertaken by the track maintenance team (watering, rolling and grading), to try and combat the dusty conditions experienced during practice. The event finally got underway on the very fast 700 metre oval, and racing was fast and furious, producing both exciting and close racing in a number of the qualifying heats.
