European Trial Championship, Over 40 and Junior Cup at Isola 2000 (France) – Day 2

Toby Martyn (Montesa, photo 1) beat his team mate Matteo Grattarola (photo 2) in the second day at Isola 2000, France, third round of the European Trial Championship. Sergio Piardi (Beta, photo 3) and Marcus Kipp (TRS, photo 4) on top in Junior and Over40 class respectively. Still sunny day and still rain in late evening the day before, so the sections dried during the day. Martyn - not too happy of his previous day’s performance - decided to ride quickly and ahead of the group of his rivals, probably in order not to be conditioned by the outcome of the others. And this decision was fruitful for him. He was soon leader at the first deliver of the card: 21 points. Grattarola underestimated some slippery sections and collected 4 ‘five’, ending the loop with 31 marks and was in fourth position, behind Francesc Moret (Montesa) who scored 28 and

Italian riders swept in Isola 2000, France, for the second round of the FIM Europe Trial Championship. Matteo Grattarola (Sembenini Montesa, photo1), Sergio Piardi (Beta, photo2) and Alessandro Brocco (Scorpa, photo3) triumphed respectively in the European Championship and in the, Junior and Over40 class. In a sunny day the wonderful alpine scenario of this small village situated at 2000 mt of altitude stood out more than the usual. Despite forecasting rain in the afternoon, the weather remained almost the same, so many riders hurried up to finish before the rain, but is was worthless. On the contrary due to a heavy rain dropped the day before, some sections were still slippery in the first part of the competition and improved their grip in the second one. Grattarola did not choose any strategy. He was happy to find sections quite difficult because his skill is at the moment higher than any

The winner was Polish Szymon Szlauderbach, ahead of Danish Jonas Saifert-Salk and of Latvian Artjoms Trofimovs. A run-off between Jonas Saifert-Salk of Denmark and Artjoms Trofimovs of Latvia saw the riders swap places in the four laps until finally the Dane took the win. European Individual Grass Track Final at Tayac (France) – Preview

James Shanes 2018
James Shanes bids to write his own piece of track racing history in the European Grass Track Championship Final at Tayac, in the South of France, the next Saturday evening. The young rider, who lives near Poole on the South coast of England, will attempt a hat-trick of consecutive wins in this championship, a feat achieved previously only by Dutch Jannick De Jong, former World Champion. Only two other men – German Robert Barth and Stephan Katt – have three European crowns to their name, meaning Katt (who is also competing at Tayac), could be the first man to win four European crowns should he triumph in France on Saturday night. Two more contenders have won the title before - British Paul Hurry triumphed back in 2005, while the only previous French winner, Stephane Tressarrieu had his time in the spotlight three years later. The hopes of the host-nation do

Trial riders again on the go in the upcoming weekend. Two days of competitions - counting as number two and three of the 2018 FIM Europe Trial Championship – that will be held in the wonderful alpine scenario of Isola 2000, in France. This small mountain village at 2000 mt of altitude has already hosted many important events concerning this sport - the latest was the Trial des Nations in 2016. The organizers, the Moto Club Grasse, have the fortune to use almost all natural sections, having nearby huge rocks surrounded by pine trees, a very nice picture always appreciated by the spectators. Isola 2000 is very close to Italian border, reachable through the Colle della Lombarda in Cuneo province. It is logic to expect many Italian fans coming to clap Italian riders, who are leading the two most blazoned classes. Matteo Grattarola (Montesa) must defend his first place in

EMX65/85 North West Zone and European Women’s Championship at Markelo (The Netherlands) – Cancellation

DSC_0591
«FIM-Europe and the KNMV regret to inform all riders entered for the final round of the EMX65/85 North West zone round which also is the final round of the European Women's MX championship this coming weekend in Markelo, is cancelled», states Eddie Herd, Chairman of FIM Europe Motocross and Snowcross Commission. «This is due to a "code red" being issued by the fire authorities on a large area around this part of The Netherlands because of the very dry and hot weather. The KNMV tried to find a replacement venue at short notice but the "code red" covers a large area. This means that the NW zone standings after Sverepec are now complete and invitations to compete in Loket will now be sent out by Youthstream to all top 10 riders from the 4 zones. This cancellation also applies to the European MX Women's championship riders and therefore the championship
